Private Messages
- Inbox
Here are all the messages that have been send to you. If it happens your PM-box is full, you need to delete some PM’s to make place. This can also be done automatically by a setting (Private messages=>Rules, folders & settings=>Folder options [see later for more info]).
- Outbox
The outbox contains messages you have send BUT haven’t been read yet.
- Send messagesThis contains messages you have send AND have been read. The layout is the same as for the outbox.
- Compose message
This is opened by default when you click on the private messages in the UCP.
The biggest changes in PM’s are that they aren’t single-destination anymore. They have become like an email in which you can define multiple persons in the TO-part and also multiple persons in the BCC-part. But there is NO CC-part!
What else is there?
- You can add an icon to your PM (for example you might use “?” If you have a question ; “!” If it is important ; “i” to give some information,…)
- For writing with colours, you have a colour pallet now, like in the topics and posts.
- You can type multiple names on multiple lines and then add them.
- The friends you defined are very handy now: instead of typing their name(s) (or searching for them [you should keep friends close!]), you can just click on the add-button aside their names in the friends-part positioned in the lower left part of the screen.
- Also here you can attach files. Only pictures?
NO! ALL TYPES OF FILES!
Here is an example of a PM I will send.
BTW: the different colours of the names (red for Luc and administrator ; green for kriki) is the colour of their default user group.
As you can see, you can just save your PM and later you can get back to it to change something and then to send it.
- Manage PM drafts
- “Load draft”: You can edit your draft, save it again or send it.
- “View/Edit”: To be honest I wonder about the use of this one. You can only send the draft when finished. But also “Load draft” can send it. I advice to use “Load draft”.
- Rules, folders & settings
As with email you can define rules on incoming PM’s. You can also add folders to contain your PM’s.
If your folder is full, you cannot accept new messages or you can move them to another folder or you can automatically delete the oldest messages.
What I do is this: I have an extra folder (”Saved messages” like in V2 of the forum) and manually move the PM’s I want to keep to that folder. If a message arrives in the Inbox and there is no space, the oldest is deleted automatically. For most users this might be unnecessary, but I do get a lot of PM’s.
