Windows 7 & Server 2008 r2 security for nav

Just a note i thought i would share.

I have a windows 64bit ultimate and a demo 2008 r2 server.

There is a new security model for these OS whereby the modification of files where the new security role "trusted installer" has ownership will prevent a user from saving any changes.

In my example I wanted to change the customsettings.config file for another RTC server , but when i was trying to save i was denied permission.

I had to change security ownership in the following way (note i did it for the whole programfiles directory)

Folder > properties > security tab

Selecte advandced button then Ownership then click Edit.

Select yourself as the user on the list below owner Then check the replace Owner check box and click OK

The system will do a change of ownership process.

From here on you can then change files in the directory and subdirectories without issue.

With the R2 server i had huge amounts of security issues trying to install Employee portal which involved changing registry settings.

Hope this helps.

That's is not the correct way how to do that. ;-)

    1) Copy the file into your document folder
    2) Change the file
    3) Copy it back, it will ask you if you want to do that as administrator, confirm that.
