[NAV 2013] Expanding a Field Length

We have multiple items ordered from vendors where the vendor item number field isn't long enough to accommodate the data required.

Solution: We need to increase to 30 characters from 20.

As I take a quick glance it looks as though this will touch quite a few tables. Not sure if there is an alternate method that would be recommended or if there is a best practices approach to increasing the field size in NAV 2013. Thoughts?

    Expanding field lengths of standard fields is NOT something you should be considering.
    There are no bugs - only undocumented features.

    Thanks bbrown most specifically though I was looking for recommendations as in creating a second field perhaps? etc. What is the general consensus when needing to expand data fields.

    We just use the description field on the P.O
