General Journal Lines disappeared

Dear Experts

Our client is using NAV 2009 R2.
Users reported that general journal lines get deleted before posting.

*************************
The user did provided us with a test report.
We checked Change log and did not find any deletion of general journal lines that are the same as the one.
We checked G/L entries and confirmed the journal lines are not posted.
*************************

Based on the above investigation, I think the journal lines get deleted by the system.
May I know whether any of you have experienced the same issue?
Is there any limitations on how many days NAV will keep general journal lines?
Any suggestions on how to fix the issue?

Thank you.

Li

Hi, G/L lines don't normally disappear and there is no time/day limit on them either. I would look into any filters that are set (intentionally or accidently). I would verify the batches, too. They can be entering info in different batch names. Start with the obvious stuff first. If they get error messages, that would help us, too. Good luck!

Did you check if they exist in the General Journal Line Table?

Perhaps they have a filter on that's preventing them from seeing the lines?

Nav doesn't delete lines after a certain amount of time.
  • I have checked general journal lines and did not find the journal lines shown on the test report.

The thing is the journal lines are not shown in change log either.

That is why I assume it is deleted by the system.

I agree with Savatage. Take a look at the Gen. Journal Line table (ID 81) and see if the lines are present there.
  • Thank you for your comments.
I did check gen. journal line table (81)and confirmed the journal lines shown on the test report is not there..

Check customised functions for deletes of journal lines. Start with reports, codeunits,...

Maybe there is a modification where someone wanted to use a temporary variable but forgot to set the temporary property. Or someone forgot a filter in a function where journal lines are deleted.

No, what you described is not standard NAV. I would get with your partner and tell them to look into this. My bet is that it's a bug they created.

NAV will not record the change log if the record was deleted using code unless specifically told to do so.

The person that made the modification probably forgot to use filters when he/she used DELETE or DELETEALL.
  • Thank you Alex.
We have confirmed the issue is caused by a customization.
