A representative from Exigy's management team was invited to form part of the panel of judges at Malta's Imagine Cup 2009 local student competition.
Sponsored by Microsoft, Imagine Cup is a yearly competition which brings together young technologists from various countries around the world who apply their imagination, skills, passion and creativity to technology innovations that make a difference. The competition entails the formation of teams within University and higher education institutions to submit solutions addressing a specifically provided theme. Now in its seventh consecutive year, this year’s team is: imagine a world where technology helps solve the toughest problems facing us today. Microsoft Malta hosted the Imagine Cup Malta finals at the Hilton Business Conference Center on Tuesday, the 12th of May. Amongst the esteemed panel of judges that was made up of five industry experts, Mr. Adrian Porter - Enterprise Projects Manager at Exigy - contributed towards choosing the winner amongst the highly talented teams. Three finalists competed for the grand first prize to represent Malta at the Imagine Cup global finals, which are to be held in Egypt between the 3rd and 8th of July 2009, for which over 100 countries are expected to participate. The finalist projects were AidEngine on behalf of MCAST, R.E.M.S on behalf of STC Training Centre and DonationExpress on behalf of University of Malta. The latter project, presented by the University team made up of Mauro Pirrone, Keith Galea, Brian Fenech and James Abela, won the local competition. The winning project integrates existing shopping carts with a single trusted source of donations, enabling donations to be quickly and easily processed upon checkout. The system includes a web portal that displays donations in a transparent way and tracks how these are spent by the beneficiary institutions.
